North American Zhejiang University Alumni Association – North Carolina Chapter Established

On June 1, the founding ceremony of the North American ZJU Alumni Association North Carolina Chapter was held at North Carolina State University. More than eighty alumni from North Carolina and neighboring areas participated. ZJU representatives—Assistant to the President and Alumni Association Secretary-General Zhang Meifeng, Director of the Party Committee and President’s Office Hu Xuyang, and others—along with North American Alumni Association President Lu Chongqing, attended the meeting. Shen Zhangxin chaired the proceedings.
NC State University Vice Chancellor Li Bailian delivered congratulatory remarks on behalf of the university and its alumni association. He reviewed the long-standing partnership between NC State and Zhejiang University and expressed hope for even deeper collaboration. North American ZJU Alumni Association President Lu Chongqing presented a report titled “Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow.” NC State Professor Huang Qin (Alex Huang) delivered the preparatory work report for the North Carolina chapter.
To enthusiastic applause from the attendees, the assembly reviewed and adopted the bylaws of the North Carolina Chapter and elected its first Council. Huang Qin was elected founding President and Shen Zhangxin was elected Secretary-General.
Secretary-General Zhang Meifeng then delivered a comprehensive keynote address on behalf of the university and alumni association, titled “The Current Status, Trends, and Alumni Work of Zhejiang University.” She outlined ZJU’s history and recent achievements in teaching, research, and international exchange and cooperation. She highlighted the series of events organized for the university’s 115th anniversary and affirmed the vital contributions alumni worldwide—including those in North America—have made to the university’s development. She expressed hope that alumni would continue to support talent recruitment, international cooperation, and other strategic initiatives.
On behalf of the university, Secretary-General Zhang Meifeng and Director Hu Xuyang presented the ZJU flag and a commemorative plaque to the new North Carolina Chapter.
During the delegation’s U.S. visit, members toured NC State University. Accompanied by Huang Qin, they held detailed discussions with Vice Chancellor Li Bailian regarding alumni association and foundation operations. The delegation also visited the Chicago, Washington D.C., and Greater New York alumni associations, exchanging ideas with local representatives. They made a special trip to Wanxiang USA to meet with President Ni Pin, a ZJU alumnus.
