February 1, 2017 – ZJU Vice President Ying Yibin Visits North Carolina & ZJUAANC Spring Welcome Event

On the afternoon of February 1, 2017 (Eastern Time), Zhejiang University Vice President Ying Yibin and his delegation visited North Carolina. They met with ZJUAANC President Huang Qin and other local alumni at the University of North Carolina Engineering Building conference room to welcome the Lunar New Year together.
Vice President Ying brought greetings and care from the alma mater to overseas students. He shared the university’s recent developments with alumni who have always cared deeply about ZJU and joined them in looking forward to the university’s bright future.
During the gathering, Vice President Ying expressed his gratitude to all the North Carolina alumni present. After each alumnus introduced themselves and shared their recent updates, he presented an overview of the university’s rapid development in recent years. Zhejiang University has made remarkable progress in key metrics, including major scientific indicators and talent recruitment, consistently ranking among the top universities in China.
Vice President Ying particularly highlighted talent recruitment, proudly noting that ZJU leads the nation in the number of scholars recruited under the “Thousand Talents Plan,” demonstrating the university’s strong emphasis on talent. He also expressed hope that the alumni present would achieve great success in their studies and one day return to contribute to both the university and the nation.
He also mentioned the opening of the Zhoushan Campus and the Haining International Campus in the previous two years. The Zhoushan Campus was established to serve the national marine strategy and cultivate marine talent. The Haining International Campus collaborates with world-renowned universities such as the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of Edinburgh, exploring a model of higher education that integrates Chinese and Western approaches and helping ZJU advance more rapidly on the global stage.
Vice President Ying also shared the university’s future expansion plans and humorously remarked, “By the time you alumni return for the 120th anniversary, there will be a proper main gate at Zijingang.”
Finally, Vice President Ying sincerely invited everyone to visit the campus and witness the university’s brilliant development.
After hearing Vice President Ying’s remarks, all the attending alumni expressed amazement at the university’s rapid growth, pride in its outstanding achievements across various fields, and confidence in an even brighter future.
As Vice President Ying said, “The university belongs to its alumni.” The name of our alma mater accompanies each of us throughout our lives, and its development continues to touch our hearts. The growth of alumni also influences the university, which remains a solid pillar of support for all its graduates.
