August 27, 2017 – ZJUAANC Successfully Completes Leadership Transition, Professor Zhang Xiangwu Elected New President

On August 27, 2017, at 7:30 PM Eastern Time, the ZJUAANC Council held an expanded meeting both in person at the North Carolina State University College of Textiles conference room and via online meeting room.

Due to President Huang Qin relocating outside of North Carolina, the Council added two new members, Xu Weining and Sun Keyi, who were appointed as Deputy Heads of the Events Department and Public Relations Department respectively. Professor Zhang Xiangwu was confirmed as the new President, with Xiu Aijun, Zheng Naiquan, and Zhou Binbin serving as First Vice President and Vice Presidents.

On July 19, 2017, at 10:07 AM Eastern Time, President Huang Qin proposed in the ZJUAANC Council WeChat group, seconded by Vice President Zhang Wenbo. By 1:45 PM, all 13 council members except the proposer voted in favor of Council member Professor Zhang Xiangwu as the next President of the North Carolina Chapter of the North American Zhejiang University Alumni Association.

The expanded Council meeting was chaired by President Zhang Xiangwu. Nine council members attended in person: Zhang Xiangwu, Zhou Binbin, Chen Weijue, Yang Ruonan, Zheng Naiquan, Zhang Wenbo, Huo Mingxu, Zhu Hanqi, and Meng Yao. Two candidate council members, Xu Weining and Sun Keyi, also participated. Alumnus Chen Binghe from Charlotte attended as an observer.

After self-introductions, President Zhang Xiangwu confirmed the list of continuing council members and nominated the two candidates. The nine attending council members unanimously voted to accept Xu Weining and Sun Keyi as new council members, bringing the total to 14, with one additional seat reserved for a Charlotte alumnus. Later, upon the nomination of Vice President Zheng Naiquan and proposal by President Zhang Xiangwu, and following a WeChat group vote by council members, Gao Yunfeng from Charlotte was accepted as a council member, bringing the total to 15.

President Zhang then led the confirmation and adjustment of Vice Presidents and department heads and deputies.

The Council also decided to hold a welcome barbecue on September 23 and confirmed the establishment of a bone marrow registration station for alumnus Yu Haobo.
